Rock Band vs. Guitar HeroThis is a featured page

In the blue corner, we have Rock Band, and in the red corner, we have Guitar Hero. Who will win this epic battle between these music phenomenons?

You've heard of them both: Guitar Hero, made by Harmonix in 2005 and later bought out by Activsion in 2007, and Rock Band, Harmonix's shot at music-game redemtion. In this article, you'll find the pros and cons of these games and which one I prefer. Now, my judgment isn't all that important to you, the reader, but this is what I experienced from playing both games. Feel however you'd like on this topic.

Peripheral:

Guitar Hero:

The first Guitar Hero made was, obviously, Guitar Hero 1, with the only peripheral being a noisy, unrealistic plastic guitar. Three years later, though, they had the "full band" conversion (wonder where they got that idea from... Rock Band...), where, in my opinion, they decreased the quality of the instruments for the excitement people would get after hearing that Guitar Hero is now "Band Hero" (not really, though). My experience with the peripheral was not so good. On the drums, the yellow cymbal felt different when I hit it, and later, the cymbal didn't work. The foot petal was always getting away from my foot, and it didn't go as high when I wasn't using it as I wanted it to go. The guitar also broke, as it sometimes instantaneously failed me in the middle of a song. The microphone also brakes when you use it on the Rock Band percussion notes.

Rock Band:

The first time I played Rock Band, I thought the guitar was a little clanky and that the strum bar was a little loose, but I quickly got over that trouble. The drums are pretty stable, but my foot pedal broke after about 4 months... I just put duct tape over it and it worked just fine. Oh, and the microphone won't break if you tap it.

WINNER: Rock Band

Setlist/ Chart Accuracy:

Guitar Hero:

Most of the songs on Guitar Hero: World Tour are already on Rock Band 2, and they are also better charted on Rock Band. However, the songs they do pick by themselves aren't all that bad (my favorites are Hotel California and the ever-popular Beat It).

Rock Band:

Rock Band's setlist is, sure enough, original, diverse and has songs that the whole band would like to play. There is one song, however, on Rock Band 2, that also appears on GH 3 DLC: Almost Easy by A7X. The songs are all very well fretted, and the difficulty isn't easy--> insane, but it eases into the difficulties.

WINNER: Rock Band

DLC:

Guitar Hero:

By my own studies, I've found out that Guitar Hero doesn't release all that much DLC, but mostly stand-alone spin-offs, like GH: Metallica and GH: Smash Hits, which cause you to spend more money for songs you don't want to listen to.

Rock Band:

If you can compare anything to the Rock Band DLC list, it'd be iTunes: A massive selection of songs, there's sure to be something that even Guitar Hero fans would like. My favorites are Flathead and Henrietta, both by The Fratellis.
So, overall, our clear cut winner is...

ROCK BAND

But of course, this is just from my personal expieriences and these are almost all opinions; some people might prefer Guitar Hero over Rock Band. That's totally ok. I just think Rock Band is the superior music game, and I would recommend that game to anyone.
